An approach to analyze software failure behaviour of automotive telecommunication systems

Abstract:
Telecommunication systems assembled into automobiles have been changed from common car phones to modules of modern information and entertainment systems. This change is provided by using new transfer systems which facilitate a higher data flow. One disadvantage of high complex systems is the liability to bugs, which can, if at all, only be traced back hardly. Consequently manufacturers have difficulties in supporting accurate predictions in terms of the reliability of these products (Braasch 2005). This paper presents a reliability prognosis model, developed by the University of Wuppertal and an important automotive supplier, which has proved suitable for answering reliability questions of automotive components in practice (Pauli & Meyna 2000). For the first time this model is applied to analyse software failure and to predict failure behaviour over a long period.
